9th Annual Tahuya Poker Run July 20th 2003

The 9th Annual Tahuya Poker Run was one of our most successful ever! Thanks goes out to our STM volunteers and to this event coordinator, Jim Grill.  Our veteran volunteers just have a knack for getting it done.  Several comments were passed along praising the course and how well it was marked.  Thanks to Don Swanson's leadership in designing this year’s course. Joe Wetmore also put together a well-oiled volunteer program for the event

On Sunday morning, Ralph provided the volunteers with his "Big Pan" breakfast.

This year we had ton of campers for the weekend, so our evening social campfire gatherings were well attended. On Sunday morning, Ralph provided the volunteers with his "Big Pan" breakfast.  The parking experts, Roy and Kathy Edick, packed everyone into every available nook and cranny.  Although we had some tired and thirsty finishers, we didn't have any serious injuries even though the Belfair Fire Dept EMT's were eager to hop on their ATV's and rescue someone.
The 44lb "Huffy" courtesy of Black Diamond Bike was tossed 42 times with medal winners in three classes.
Kid's Class: Kyle at 25 ft won $13.
Guys: Repeat champ, big Derrick hurled it 40-1/2 ft, winning $24.
Joe Wetmore provided a humorous play-by-play commentary that entertained us all.

Gals: Tosser Timi also know as the Bee Lady won at 25 ft.

The Kathy and Jim Grill did another fantastic job this year getting lots of prize swag for the event.  Prizes were awarded for all the 2 pair or better poker hands.  Then all the remaining riders names were entered in the raffle.  The result was that most all the riders won something at this year’s event
Our STM Volunteers raffle provided quality prizes.  Don Swanson was presented with a cool Black Diamond Bike riding jersey in appreciation for his efforts designing and marking courses for STM events, past and present. The after event clean up was followed by a volunteer pizza feed in Belfair (yum!).

Following the success of this year’s event at the Tahuya state forest we hope to continue to host the event at the Tahuya River Horse Camp in the future.  This requires that Single Track Mind continues to volunteer trail maintenance hours there and that state budget cuts don't close it to recreational use.
