Single Track Mind Cycling Club Ride Leader Guidelines Mandatory Requirements : 1) Make sure all riders are wearing helmets. Anyone without a helmet is not allowed to ride with the group or sign the waiver. 2) Be sure and have all riders fill out and sign the STM rider release form prior to the start of the ride. Suggested Ideas : 1) Before the ride starts, ask if everyone has enough water and food for the pace and distance of the ride. 2) Have a basic first aid kit available with you or with another person that you have made a prior arrangement with. 3) Have a trail map or a strong knowledge of where you're going unless the ride is listed as an "exploratory ride". Extra maps if available, are a good idea for the riders that may have to "bail" early. 4) Stress that no one gets left behind and have someone always wait at an intersection for the last rider to pass. Calling out your directions at intersections ( i.e. left turn!) is usually very helpful. 5) Show up early to your designated meeting area for your ride. 6) If the group is larger than about 10 and you have someone on this ride that would be willing to lead out a separate group, you may want to decide to split the ride into two groups. 7) Assist with any mechanical failures, accidents or etc. on your ride. If someone has to leave to go back, send someone who has knowledge of the trail back with them. If no one on your ride is familiar with the trail, you may have to abandon the ride and have everyone ride out with you.
